Preparatory and language course – English

Preparatory and language course for international students

This preparatory and language course is designed for those who intent to take Bachelor or Master study programs, but do not have sufficient knowledge of the English language necessary to follow courses in English.

The course not only includes English lessons (general English and professional English necessary to begin the course) but it also introduces students to the basics of Slovak (as a foreign language) and to some traditions and customs in Slovakia. From this perspective the course includes elements of intercultural communication. Finally, it provides for a set of legal rules mainly focusing on administrative law by immigration law being the core of the course (the basic rights and duties of aliens in Slovakia and in the European Union). The participants will also be introduced to some topics that are to be covered within the Fall Term of Year 1 studies within the accredited programme to provide them with the extra benefit of reducing the study burden once enrolled for the accredited programme of International Relations and Diplomacy. The course aims to increase fluency in writing, speaking and listening on the current professional topics, prepare students for seminars and written/oral examinations, raise awareness of language, structures and vocabulary related to subject areas and emphasize on the practice in giving oral presentations.

This course is tailored specifically for international students who will apply for one of the English study programs at Pan-European University.

Classes will deal with listening, discussion, reading and writing in the current global topics and issues in total hour 20/per week. Emphasis will be placed on note-taking, appropriate academic style and presentation practice; not only the professional language to be improved, but soft skills as well.
