Information for Prospective Doctoral Students

Doctoral studies at the Faculty of Economics and Entrepreneurship at Pan-European University are third-cycle higher education studies conducted pursuant to Section 54 of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions and on Amendments and Supplements to Certain Acts, as amended.

Doctoral Studies in Economics

Studies at the faculty are conducted in fields of study according to accredited study programs and are carried out in the full-time form of study.

Doctoral studies for the 2018/2019 academic year are offered in the following field of study / study program:

Admission requirements

The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies, pursuant to Section 56(3) and Section 57(5) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on Higher Education Institutions, as amended, is the completion of a second-cycle higher education study program in related fields of study. The entrance examination is conducted before an examination committee appointed by the dean.

Date of entrance interviews: will be specified to applicants.

In the application, the applicant selects the study program, form of study, and dissertation topic from the listed topics; alternatively, after consultation with the chair of the relevant subject committee, the applicant may propose their own dissertation topic.

The e-application is recorded only in electronic form; do not print it! The e-application will be considered complete only if all sections are correctly filled out: Personal Information, Applicant’s Addresses, Application Details. Additionally, the admission fee must be paid.

Required attachments to the e-application:

* resume

* certified copies of documents proving educational attainment (diploma, state examination certificate, diploma supplement). An engineering degree completed at a foreign university may be recognized based on a written request from the applicant and a positive decision by the Rector of PEU in accordance with generally binding legal regulations and the Rector of PEU’s directive on the recognition of educational documents, unless otherwise provided by specific legal regulations

* a draft outline of the dissertation

* a list of the applicant’s published and unpublished works, expert reviews of these works (if available), and a list of results from other professional activities.

Admission Procedure:

The selection of applicants is based on the results of the admission procedure before the admissions committee, taking into account the applicants’ demonstrated knowledge of the field of study, as well as their ability to explain to the committee the content, methodology, and anticipated results of their dissertation.

During the admission interview, the applicant’s language proficiency in the chosen international language is also assessed.

An admitted applicant becomes a doctoral student on the date of enrollment, the timing of which is determined by the dean.

Doctoral studies generally begin at the start of the first semester of the relevant academic year.

The aim of the doctoral program is to prepare the student for independent, creative scientific work. In the doctoral program, the student acquires knowledge based on current scientific understanding and, through their own research, contributes to the advancement of scientific knowledge in their field. Doctoral studies place significant demands on the student’s time, requiring a high level of commitment and the ability to organize work effectively. Upon completion of the program, the student is awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD.)

Students enrolled in the full-time doctoral program are provided with a scholarship in accordance with the relevant regulations.

Doctoral Program Graduate

The profile of graduates from this program is defined by a comprehensive set of specialized knowledge and expertise in the field of international business.

It focuses primarily on examining the complex interrelationships affecting the development of the international business environment and the adaptation processes of firms and enterprises.

The fact that the subject of scientific research is an interdisciplinary field of economics, subject to constant evolutionary changes, necessitates a highly flexible internal response in the design of this degree program’s curriculum. It is expected that graduates of the third level of education will be highly qualified, professionally well-rounded experts who, upon successful completion of this program, will attain the highest level of expertise in the subject area. They find employment not only in scientific work at universities, in research teams, or in the activities of various social and public organizations, but also as top experts in companies, financial institutions, and business organizations. Particular opportunities are anticipated in various international organizations, foreign companies and representative offices, as well as joint ventures, public administration, government institutions, and similar settings.
